Do newborns need head support in a swing? My brother and sister-in-law have just had a baby. My sister-in-law keeps her in a swing with no head support. As an expectant mother and nursery school teacher, I know this is not good. We also disagree about putting a baby in the front seat of a car, regardless of whether there is an airbag. I would appreciate some advice or information on these two issues.

Safely to Sleep Sudden Infant Cot Syndrome is very rare, and doctors are still unsure about its exact mechanisms. But you can protect your newborn from unnecessary risks by following these simple rules: 1) Forbid any smoking around your baby. 2) Put your infant to sleep on his back. 3) Keep him at the right temperature. 4) Position your baby at the lower half of the cot to prevent him wriggling under his blankets and covering his head.

My husband and I have a 6-month-old daughter and a dog. Until recently our family pet either ignored or enjoyed the baby. But now that she's mobile he growls whenever she crawls near him. Though he's never bitten anyone, I'm afraid he's going to nip her. What can we do?

I have a concern/question about bumper pads. My 5-month-old son woke up crying because he had pushed his head underneath the bumper pads. I immediately took them off because of my concern for his safety. The pads do not tie at the bottom, only the top. Please assure me I did the right thing. Now I'm concerned about him bumping his head.
