Moonlit Babycare Tending to your little one's needs at night is exhausting but must nevertheless be handled calmly and carefully. The aim at all times is to maintain a sense of nightime. Use low lighting, keep to a minimum of fuss and avoid too much interaction with your baby.

Your baby's growing social awarenessBecoming Sociable At three months of age, your baby is really beginning to take her place in the world. She actively seeks the attention of those closest to her, smiles and vocalises to communicate her pleasure. But as her social world expands, she faces the challenge of predicting other people's behaviour and this can sometimes make her anxious.

Born to Eat! After the stresses and strains of labour, your newborn will be keen to take his first meal. Luckily for him, he will arrive in the world equipped with all the necessary instincts and reflexes to feed himself. His sharp sense of smell will lead him to the milk source, he will respond to the touch of a nipple on his cheek by turning his head, and automatically open his mouth to latch on. When it comes to breastfeeding, your baby is in control! So give it a go - breast milk is the very best Birth Day gift you can give your child!

Bedtime Routines When it comes to sleep, the sooner you introduce good habits the better. One month into motherhood, your life is probably regaining structure and you may feel ready to start implementing simple routines. At this young age, for your baby night-time is the same as day-time. So it's down to you to differentiate between the two. And the best way to start is with a good bedtime routine.

Is my Baby Unwell? Because her immune system has yet to build up, your newborn is susceptible to viruses and infections. Colds and sniffles are common and usually nothing to worry about. But call your GP if your little one suffers from any of the following: 1) A temperature above 38.5C or below 37.5C, that won't correct itself by cooling or warming your baby. 2) Rapid breathing 3) Refusing feeds 4) Projectile vomiting 5) Floppiness or persistent crankiness 6) Dry nappies over more than a 6 hour period. Don't administer any medication without medical advice.

Newborn BabycareThe First Day Home It's normal to feel apprehensive about bringing your baby home for the first time. You won't be the first new mum to have never changed a nappy or dressed a baby in a fiddly sleep-suit before. Most of us had to learn on the job, and most of us made mistakes along the way! But don't worry. Your instincts will kick in the moment you need them, and for tasks that are completely alien to you, there is always plenty of help and advice.
